My Stance on Key Issues
-
New Democrats fight for workers, not for Big Oil billionaires. We’ll release a powerful plan to fight the climate crisis, make life more affordable and create good jobs across the country. We know we can:
Save you money on your energy bills with free and easy-to-access home energy retrofits and clean power
Eliminate handouts to Big Oil once and for all
Stop letting big polluters off the hook and make them pay for their pollution
Tax the over-the-top profits of oil and gas companies
Stop big banks greenwashing
Invest in climate adaptation and disaster preparedness
Create hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs by investing in clean energy, energy efficient affordable homes, electric transit and zero-emission vehicles

Every Canadian’s vote should count.
Election after election, too many Canadians have been left to feel like their vote didn’t count, and their voice wasn’t heard. The winner-take-all system makes people feel cynical about voting.
Jagmeet and the NDP will make 2025 the last election under an unfair electoral system – for real this time and implement Proportional representation.
We also believe in making voting easier for people who want to vote. New Democrats will:
Amend the Elections Act to guarantee three-day voting periods, in addition to advance voting polls
Guarantee First Nations, Métis and Inuit voters have access to ballots in the languages they read and write
Enshrine the Vote on Campus program to make elections accessible to university and college students
We’ll also fight to lower the voting age to 16, to give young people a say over their future.

New Democrats will lower grocery prices—because we're in it for working families, not billionaire grocery giants.
New Democrats will stand up to greedy grocery CEOs, and we’ll lower grocery prices. A New Democrat government will:
Scrap the GST on grocery meals, diapers, kids’ clothes and more
Implement a price cap on essential items so working families can put food on the table for less
End the free ride big grocery chains are getting by bringing in more price transparency, stopping shrinkflation and increasing fines for price fixing
Support more competition in the grocery sector by helping small and medium grocers, including community-driven food cooperatives, get into the market and set up shop
Change the Nutrition North program to send food subsidies directly to people, not large corporations
If everyday Canadians stand together, we can win together.

Protecting public health means having the guts to defend it, and coming up with solutions that will ensure that health care is there for you when and where you need it with your health card, not your credit card.
Because of New Democrats, the government implemented dental care and better access to birth control and diabetes medications.
New Democrats will keep delivering for you:
Improve the working conditions for health care professionals, which will both improve patient outcomes and reduce burnout among doctors and nurses
Work with provinces and territories to recruit, retrain, and retain more doctors and nurses to work across Canada
Make it easier for health care workers to work in Canada by streamlining the licenses of workers from other countries and pan-Canadian licensing to work any in Canada
Strengthen the Canada Health Act to stop the expansion of for-profit health care and include strong accountability measures toward improving and transforming our health services to meet the population’s needs;
Invest in better home care and long-term care so our elders aren’t spending months in hospital beds waiting for a spot
Implement free prescribed medication for so no one must choose between taking the medication they need and paying their rent

Under the Liberals, rent is at a record high and corporations buy up homes just to evict tenants, slap on new countertops and hike the rent.
The NDP will protect renters and lower rent by:
Banning corporations from buying up homes that are still somewhat affordable
Banning renovictions and fixed-term leases
Cracking down on corporate landlords like Brookfield using AI to fix rent
When it comes to public land (federal crown land) the NDP will:
Set aside 100% of suitable federal crown land that we already own to build over 100,000 rent-controlled homes by 2035
Publicly finance new construction, with a new Community Housing Bank to partner with non-profit developers, co-ops, and Indigenous communities
Redesign and double the Public Land Acquisition Fund, investing $1 billion over 5 years into acquiring more public land to build more rent-controlled homes on
Speed up approvals on lands owned by the federal government to get workers on site, shovels in the ground, and homes built sooner
-
The NDP will stand with First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities – for clean water, safe homes and strong futures.
New Democrats know it’s not enough to just make promises. We’ll work nation-to-nation, respect the free, prior and informed consent of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, and help deliver what communities need.
New Democrats will continue to:
Push for the implementation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Actions and MMIWG Calls for Justice
Negotiate with First Nations leaders across the country on settlements that respect all First Nations who need support
Work with communities to lift all long-term boil water advisories and ensure that there are jobs in communities to manage water treatment facilities
Make sure all communities trying to find truth and justice for the genocide that took place in residential schools have the supports they need

Ending the toxic drug crisis means treating it like the emergency that it is — not delaying action or stoking fear and division.
This means treating it as a health matter, listening to the experts and providing a safe supply of substances while also making sure that when people ask for help, we’re ready to provide it to them.
Ending this crisis also means making investments in education and prevention, harm reduction, treatment and on-demand recovery services.

I want to be absolutely clear: I recognize the pain and trauma on both sides of this conflict. I mourn for every innocent life lost — whether in Gaza, Israel, or anywhere else. I believe in peace, justice, and dignity for both Palestinians and Israelis.
To the Palestinian solidarity community: I hear you. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is catastrophic. Palestinians deserve self-determination, safety, and justice. I support targeted efforts to end the occupation and uphold human rights. But I also believe our message must build bridges, not walls. Language that feels like it targets Jewish people — even if unintentionally — can close the very doors we need open.
And to the Jewish community and supporters of Israel: I understand your concerns for safety and your historical trauma. I support Israel’s right to exist in peace — and I also believe that true peace can’t exist alongside military occupation or systemic injustice. Criticizing a government’s actions does not mean denying a people’s right to exist.
I may not endorse every tactic, but I will always fight for outcomes that move us toward peace, not division — and I will always make space for respectful, good-faith dialogue with all communities.
That’s how I believe we build a better future — together.
